Report: BDC Round 5 @ Trax. Part 1

I got genuinely excited about this event for 2 or 3 days before. With the special guests Frederic Aasbo and D-Mac coming all the way from the US with the need for speed tour. As well as the special guests the news spread around that Phil Morrison was going to be competing and that the SATS supra of Mark Luney was going to be running over 1000bhp it was going to be spectacular.

The day started off pretty grim at around 8.30 the rain had set in but this didn’t appear to stop the sheer amount of people coming with cars and the viewing public.

The practice session started at 11.00am and from the very first run by Peter Green in his E30 BMW it was extremely slippery.  This made a few of the early runs quite slow, shortly after this was no longer the case as the drivers got used to the slippery conditions.

Declan Munnelly showed off how much lock his little escort has.

Frederic Aasbo showed some aggression even in wet practice.

Another good sight on track was Simon Perry after the uncertainty if he was going to be able to finish the season, along with fellow skyline owners team mate Jody Fletcher who had just been promoted into the super pro class.

After the 20-minute practice session was over I headed off to the BDC paddock to find some shelter. With the rain setting in yet again the likely hood of a dry top 16 was looking slim.

The Driftworks pit crew were not so disappointed by the weather in the morning after not needing to change the tires. On a track like Silverstone Phil Morrison would eat through a new set of Federals in 2 laps.

Then it was back out for qualifying. Each driver had 4 qualifying runs marked out of 100. 40 for the first inside corner clipping point, 30 for the second clipping point and finally 30 for style.  The 30 for style was going to be a big point winner at Silverstone as drivers with dedication can get a backwards entry into the first corner.

Once the drivers had put in some safe laps they started to push harder with Phil Morrison putting in the best run to qualify first.

These where the top 16 after qualifying.
